VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Hyde Elementary needs volunteers to help with their school carnival on Friday, October 3rd 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Check with the A+ Office in the Benton Library for details.

Juniors, as participants of the My Success Event last year, you are eligible for a My Success Event Scholarship. There are at least 16- $500 scholarships available. There are even some colleges that are going to have matching scholarships for students receiving the MSE scholarship. So, this could mean $1000 for some students. The scholarship application is available at: http://www.mysuccessevent.com/ and is due Nov. 7th. See Mrs. Nelson or Mrs. Arambula if you have any questions.

A+ SCHOOLS PROGRAM: A+ tutor training will be Thursday, October 2nd at 2:50 p.m. in room A3. Please remember that tutors must attend one training. If you have any questions, stop by the A+ Office in the library.

We have made available a Guest Internet for wireless access to internet only. What that means is, you can not get to any network applications, H Drive (which is your server space). the only thing you can get to is the Internet. this is for personal laptops, people or students bring the building. all laptop carts or school district computers should stay on the Benton wireless and not the Guest Internet Wireless.

Can faculty please let the nurse know if you would be interested in having flu shots here if the cost was around $30.00.

As a part of our ongoing efforts to evaluate and improve the technical services offered by Troester Media Center we will periodically be sending out surveys to evaluate the performance of the different areas of our service offerings. Please take a moment to help us understand how we are doing. For those that are not aware, TMC offers a help desk for computer problems that is staffed daily and can be called at 816-671-4444.

Activity Video: I spoke with Mr. Blakely about doing a video for each activity. He was wonderful and said that he can have his advanced audio visual class do the videos. Each activity is responsible for their own footage and getting the footage to Mr. Blakely. From there his class will cut and edit everything for the sponsor. It would be really awesome if we have sponsors take Mr. Blakely up on this offer. All videos will be on ch. 1 during the week they are highlighted. Contact Mr. Blakely when you are ready to give him footage. Casey

Apple Seed grant forms are available and are being accepted in our office. The deadline is October 3, 2008. Hard copies of the application form are going out to the buildings in the inter-school mail today. Teachers may also access the form on the SJSD website, under SJSD Foundation, Applications.

Teams of teachers applying may not consist of more than three people and one of the team must be identified as the lead teacher, responsible for purchase orders and final summaries. Also, counselors and librarians may co-apply when teamed with one or more classroom teachers.

If you have an idea of a name for our new mascot, please stop by Tami Davis' office in 209 and fill out your entry. Serious entries only need to reply. The last day to reply will be Wednesday, October 1st.

The Career Education class will be taking a field trip to Park University and William Jewel College on Wednesday, Oct. 1st. Any senior that is interested in going with our class must pick up a permission slip with Mrs. Arambula or Ms. Gaiser. The cost is $6.50, lunch is included in the cost. Permission slips and money are due to Mrs. Arambula or Ms. Gaiser by Monday, Oct. 29th, NO LATER.

Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their efforts in the Benton Invitational yesterday at Hyde Park. The boys’ varsity ran a great race to finish in second place. John Beamon ran a tremendous race to finish in second with outstanding medal runs also turned-in by Jordan Bolton, Ryno Relford, and Josh White. Taylor Woodruff raced her way to winning the individual championship in the girls’ varsity race. Blayr Bolton and Erin McAndrews both ran super races to earn medals. Brandon Parker and Brian McIntosh both raced their way to medal performance runs in the boys J.V. division. Eden Woodbury, Lauren Johnson, and Amber Boller all ran exceptional races to earn medals in the girls J.V. race. Kegan Cunningham ran a strong race to earn a medal in the freshman boys’ race.

Activity Video: I spoke with Mr. Blakely about doing a video for each activity. He was wonderful and said that he can have his advanced audio visual class do the videos. Each activity is responsible for their own footage and getting the footage to Mr. Blakely. From there his class will cut and edit everything for the sponsor. It would be really awesome if we have sponsors take Mr. Blakely up on this offer. All videos will be on ch. 1 during the week they are highlighted. Juniors, as participants of the My Success Event last year, you are eligible for a My Success Event Scholarship. There are at least 16- $500 scholarships available. There are even some colleges that are going to have matching scholarships for students receiving the MSE scholarship. So, this could mean $1000 for some students. · Spirit Week will start Monday September 15th with come as your wear your favorite music group/concert t-shirts. We will be having the Cardinal Olympics Friday Sept 19th. Sign up will be in Mr. Reigerts room for "Class Teams" - It will start at 1:30, more information will follow.

Oct. 9th the Health Express will be here doing sports physicals for $10.00. Sign up now in the nurse's office.

Job announcements are available in the Counseling Center. Current openings will be posted at the beginning of every week for students looking for a part time job. See Mrs. Arambula if you have any questions.

Interserv Daycare at Wesley Center has an opening for Mon-Fri from 3:00 to 5:30 You must be 18 to apply. See the Job Postings board in the Counseling Center if you need more information.

Apple Seed grant forms are available and are being accepted in our office. The deadline is October 3, 2008. Hard copies of the application form are going out to the buildings in the inter-school mail today. Teachers may also access the form on the SJSD website, under SJSD Foundation, Applications.

Teams of teachers applying may not consist of more than three people and one of the team must be identified as the lead teacher, responsible for purchase orders and final summaries. Also, counselors and librarians may co-apply when teamed with one or more classroom teachers.
