The Board of Education voted today to place two items on the ballot on April 7, 2009.

The first question will ask voters to renew and make permanent the temporary operating levy of 63 cents. Remember the operating levy provides dollars to run the school district, including to pay your salaries.

The second question will ask voters to allow the SJSD to issue bonds to build two new schools, add classrooms to Skaith and build a multi-purpose building, and purchase property for the south side with the intent to build a middle school complex. The cost will be 22 cents/$100 AV, generating $45 million for construction (or $3.50/month; $41.80/year for a $100,000 dollar home).

The sad news for our team this week is that we lost a wonderful teacher. Mary Jane Spangler, a fourth grade teacher at Skaith, died unexpectedly on Tuesday. Please send your good thoughts and prayers to our colleagues at Skaith. This is a very difficult time for all.
