STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

TRACK and FIELD Practice for boys and girls will begin today (Monday/3-2) at 3:00 and will continue everyday during the season at the same time. If you have any questions contact Coach Kimble, Coach Allen, Coach Dickkut, or Coach Sardo.

2.We need volunteers to help at the Second Harvest Food Bank on Thursday, Feb. 26th, from 3:30 to 5:30.

3.Volunteers are needed to help serve at the Southside Rotary Soup and Chili Supper on Saturday, February 28th. Helpers will work a 2-hour shift, between about 2:00 until 7:00. You will get to eat while you volunteer.

4.Someone is needed to update our FOR Club database with 2nd semester classes so we can send out memos to members. This would probably be an after-school job.

IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED A “LATE NOTICE FOR AN OVERDUE BOOK” Please return or renew your book ASAP. Detentions are being given out for books that are not turned back in.

Rachel Mehesan and Kyleigh Weston qualified for finals at the MEC Conference Speech and Debate Tournament held at Lafayette High School over the weekend. Both contestants finished sixth place in Humorous Interpretation and Poetry.

The Downtown Library currently has a Page position open and a few more positions opening as summer comes closer. You must be 16 years or older and able to work 12-16hours per week. Camp Wonderland is accepting applications for summer employment. Wonderland Camp is a residential camp for children, teenagers and adults with mental and physical disabilities located at the Lake of the Ozarks. The due date for applications is Feb. 13th. Help support homeless students in our school district. Each classroom and office area will have a large white bag beginning Feb. 9- Feb 13 to collect hygiene and paper products for needy students. The 3rd hour class with the highest point value will receive McDonald’s breakfast. Products will be collected at the end of each 3rd hour class.

We need your help! We need you to please donate bags of kisses or cash and I will purchase the kisses. Please bring them to the counselor’s office or FAC rooms.

Between Feb. 9-13, during lunch, Valentines Grams for 25 cents will be sold, also Hershey Kisses $1.00 per bag and “preordered” Valentine Carnations for $1.00 each. Delivery will be Feb 12-13. All the money collected from the Grams, Kisses and Carnations stays right here at BHS for our students. From this effort we are able to pay for class fees, uniforms, competitions, etc.

Help support homeless students in our school district. Each classroom and office area will have a large white bag beginning Feb. 9- Feb 13 to collect hygiene and paper products for needy students. The 3rd hour class with the highest point value will receive McDonald’s breakfast. Products will be collected at the end of each 3rd hour class.

Best Buy will award $1500 scholarships to 1000 students, based on their community service and their academic achievement. MWSU Spring ACT Prep Course: Students will learn test-taking strategies and review English, mathematics, reading and science reasoning. There are five Saturday class sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. starting February 28th. Cost is $141.50 and the deadline to enroll is 4:00 p.m. on February 20th

The University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School is offering an exciting summer experience for juniors interested in medicine. The Mini Medical School is a week long experience either from July 5-9 or July 12-16. Selection is not determined by ACT or GPA, so all students should apply if you are interested. 2009 GRADUATES: St. Joseph Tractor is looking for candidates that interested in completing an internship and an Associate Degree in Industrial and Farm Equipment Technician program from Oklahoma State University- Okmulgee. Tuition, fees, and tools will all be paid through a scholarship program. Deadline is Feb. 12, 2009.

CPOD is a week-long FREE summer program at Linn State Technical College from June 7-12.The leadership program will help students learn more about career opportunities in computer fields .

The Southside Rotary is looking for volunteers to help with the Southside Rotary Soup & Chili Supper. It will be held on Saturday, February 28 from 4-7 p m at the Wesley Center. Sign up in the Counseling Center.

The American Red Cross is seeking creative students to volunteer to be Heroes. The Red Cross Heroes campaign is from March 4th to April 7th. Any individual or group that would like to volunteer to help this community organization there is an orientation session in February.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Downtown Library currently has a Page position open and a few more positions opening as summer comes closer. You must be 16 years or older and able to work 12-16hours per week. Starting wage is $7.05. They are also really accommodating when it comes to scheduling around a busy high school student’s activities. See Mrs. Arambula if you would like an application.

Camp Wonderland is accepting applications for summer employment. Wonderland Camp is a residential camp for children, teenagers and adults with mental and physical disabilities located at the Lake of the Ozarks. The due date for applications is Feb. 13th. College Goal Sunday at Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri State University and Maple Woods Comm. College is on February 8th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. This workshop will help you complete the FAFSA form and learn anything else you need to know in order to fund your college education.
