STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

COURTWARMING will be Friday February 6th, 2009. The theme will be
“Eatin’ Up Some Chili”.
Help support homeless students in our school district. Each classroom and office area will have a large white bag beginning Feb. 9- Feb 13 to collect hygiene and paper products for needy students. The 3rd hour class with the highest point value will receive McDonald’s breakfast. Products will be collected at the end of each 3rd hour class.
Between Feb. 9-13, during lunch, Valentines Grams for 25 cents will be sold, also Hershey Kisses $1.00 per bag and “preordered” Valentine Carnations for $1.00 each. Delivery will be Feb 12-13. All the money collected from the Grams, Kisses and Carnations stays right here at BHS for our students. From this effort we are able to pay for class fees, uniforms, competitions, etc.
We need your help! We need you to please donate bags of kisses or cash and I will purchase the kisses. Please bring them to the counselor’s office or FAC rooms.
NHS application deadline has been extended. Friday, Feb.6th is the last day to turn the application in. If you have any questions, see Ms. Sherard or Ms. Bosworth.
FCA meets every Friday in A123 at 7:00 a.m.
Cinderella's Closet: Junior or senior girls that need a dress for prom can pick out a dress at the YWCA on Saturday Feb. 7th from 10-4 p.m. If you have more questions see Mrs. Rucker or call 232-4481.
College scholarship opportunity for grades 9-12, if you are strong in academics and community service The Best Buy Scholarship is now available for anyone in high school who plans to attend college. Best Buy will award $1500 scholarships to 1000 students, based on their community service and their academic achievement. All students that are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare the Missouri Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Pipeline is going to be visiting Benton on Feb. 25th during seminar. They will talk about various programs, job shadowing, and workshops associated with AHEC Pipeline. This is a great opportunity that will add to your activity resume, scholarship applications and health related college opportunities. Please sign up in the Counseling Center.
MWSU Spring ACT Prep Course: Students will learn test-taking strategies and review English, mathematics, reading and science reasoning. There are five Saturday class sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. starting February 28th. Cost is $141.50 and the deadline to enroll is 4:00 p.m. on February 20th
COLLEGES VISITING BENTON: Any student interested in attending needs to sign up in the counseling office by the end of the day prior to the visit.

K-State is having an Engineering Day, Feb. 20, 2009. Any juniors or seniors that are interested in engineering upon graduation, this will give you the opportunity to have an in-depth look at their College of Engineering. Questions; please see Mrs. Arambula.
COLLEGE VISITS: Students planning a college visit MUST see Mrs. Arambula to get necessary paperwork and approval. An official college visit must be set-up or I will help you set it up. I'm looking forward to helping you.
College Goal Sunday at Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri State University and Maple Woods Comm. College is on February 8th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. This workshop will help you complete the FAFSA form and learn anything else you need to know in order to fund your college education. To find out what you need to take with you to the workshop please see someone in the Counseling Center.
The University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School is offering an exciting summer experience for juniors interested in medicine. The Mini Medical School is a week long experience either from July 5-9 or July 12-16. Selection is not determined by ACT or GPA, so all students should apply if you are interested. Applications are due by March 15th. Please see Mrs. Arambula if you would like more information.
2009 GRADUATES: St. Joseph Tractor is looking for candidates that interested in completing an internship and an Associate Degree in Industrial and Farm Equipment Technician program from Oklahoma State University- Okmulgee. Tuition, fees, and tools will all be paid through a scholarship program. See Mrs. Nelson or Mrs. Arambula for more details. Deadline is Feb. 12, 2009.
CPOD is a week-long FREE summer program at Linn State Technical College from June 7-12.The leadership program will help students learn more about career opportunities in computer fields .Several field trips are also scheduled to help students learn more about computer technology. If you are interested please see Mrs. Arambula.

The US Military Academy is having a summer leaders seminar for juniors from May 30-June 5 or June 6-12 at West Point. The cost is $325 plus transportation to West Point. Application is due April 1st. Apply online at www.admissions.usma.edu.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Southside Rotary is looking for volunteers to help with the Southside Rotary Soup & Chili Supper. It will be held on Saturday, February 28 from 4-7 p m at the Wesley Center. Sign up in the Counseling Center.
The American Red Cross is seeking creative students to volunteer to be Heroes. The Red Cross Heroes campaign is from March 4th to April 7th. Any individual or group that would like to volunteer to help this community organization there is an orientation session in February. March is Red Cross Month and the Red Cross would like to have as many Heroes as they can get to participate. A Hero for the American Red Cross is a person who commits to raising a minimum of $1,000 for the Chapter to do its local services and work. Please see Mrs. Arambula for more details
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
If you are looking for a job there are several potential employment opportunities posted in the Counseling Center.
Camp Wonderland is accepting applications for summer employment. Positions include Camp Counselors, Cabin Leaders, and Program Staff. Wonderland Camp is a residential camp for children, teenagers and adults with mental and physical disabilities located at the Lake of the Ozarks. The due date for applications is Feb. 13th. See Mrs. Arambula if you have any questions.

It is being held: Tuesday, February 10th at 4:15 to 5:15 at the downtown conference room.
We are moving Birthday/ Pay Day Treats to Tuesday because Weds. is an early out. So we will have food on Tuesday and Friday of next week. Tuesday you bring food and Friday is provided.
