Friday - October 2, 2009

CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their performances in the Lafayette Invitational at Krug Park. For the second week in a row, the Boys Varsity ran away with the team title. John Beamon and Kain Ellis lead the way by medaling in the top five with Ryno Relford, Keegan Cunningham, and Tanner Murphy running powerful races to also earn medals. The Girls Varsity ran to a strong 3rd place finish led by Taylor Woodruff clobbering the rest of the field to earn individual championship honors. Blayr Bolton also ran an outstanding race to medal in the top five. Brandon Parker, Bryson Sauter, Casey Easter, and Logan Amador all medaled in the J.V. Boys race. Lauren Johnson ran a great race to earn a medal for her efforts. Jacob Fairchild ran to a medal finish in the Fr. Boys race.

SPORTS PHYSICALS: If you are planning on participating in winter sports and need a physical, the Health Express will be here Friday, October the 9th doing sports physicals. To sign up, please see the nurse. She will give you the appropriate forms to be filled out and accept your money. The cost is $15 cash or check (made payable to Health Express).

Tickets are 5 dollars and proceeds will go to BHS wrestling fundraiser. Donations are accepted. Tickets may be purchased from Coach Hubbard.

SENIORS: Have you overcome something traumatic or had a difficult set of circumstances to deal with throughout your high school career? If so, you are an excellent candidate to apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarship. This scholarship has been awarded to Benton students the past. You only need to have a 2.0 GPA to be considered for this $2500 scholarship which is awarded to students who have overcome adversity. See Prep HQ, Mrs. Turner or Mrs Hitch for more information.

You MUST attend training AND return the contract BEFORE checkout can begin.

WRESTLING: A chili tailgate will be October 2nd at the homecoming game. Chili tailgate will run from 5:00 p.m. to halftime on the north end of the practice field. MIC-O-SAY SCHOLARSHIP: Any Benton student who is a boy scout member of the Camp Geiger Tribesman of Mic-O-Say is eligible to apply for the $1000 Newman Mic-O-Say scholarship. You do not have to be a senior. Check it out on Prep HQ or see Mrs. Turner for details. Deadline is October 10th.

SENIORS: Have you overcome something traumatic or had a difficult set of circumstances to deal with throughout your high school career? If so, you are an excellent candidate to apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarship. This scholarship has been awarded to Benton students the past. You only need to have a 2.0 GPA to be considered for this $2500 scholarship which is awarded to students who have overcome adversity. See Prep HQ, Mrs. Turner or Mrs Hitch for more information.

HEISMAN SCHOLARSHIP: The Wendy's Heisman Scholarship is due October 1st. This is an excellent scholarship opportunity for student athletes. SENIORS: Have you overcome something traumatic or had a difficult set of circumstances to deal with throughout your high school career? If so, you are an excellent candidate to apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarship. This scholarship has been awarded to Benton students the past. OVERNIGHT LAPTOP CHECKOUT: The library will begin checking out laptops to students for an overnight period starting next week. To check out a laptop, you must do the following:

1. Attend a 10-15 minute laptop training in the library before or after school.

2. Sign a contract along with your parent or guardian agreeing to checkout terms.

Sign up sheets are in the library and training will begin next Wednesday, September 23rd. You MUST attend training AND return the contract BEFORE checkout can begin.

WRESTLING: A chili tailgate will be October 2nd at the homecoming game. Chili tailgate will run from 5:00 p.m. to halftime on the north end of the practice field. Tickets are 5 dollars and proceeds will go to BHS wrestling fundraiser. Donations are accepted. Tickets may be purchased from Coach Hubbard.

CONGRATS TO VOLLEYBALL: Congratulations to the varsity volleyball girls on their hard fought three game victory over Cameron last night. The JV improved greatly from last week but came up a little short in their 3 games last night. Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who traveled to Cameron to support the ladies. You helped level the playing field and it was greatly appreciated. Our next home match is Tuesday night against Maryville with the freshmen beginning at 5:00pm!

CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country team for their outstanding performances on Saturday in the Liberty Invitational. Taylor Woodruff and Blayr Bolton both ran superior races against a very strong class 4 varsity girls field in finishing 2nd and 10th. Kain Ellis and John Beamon led the boys varsity with strong efforts to earn medals. Eden Woodbury ran well in the J.V. girls race to earn a medal. Keegan Cunningham ran a strong race to earn a medal in the sophomore boys race. Amber Flint raced to a top ten medal finish in leading the Benton girls in the freshmen race. Cecil Leivan also ran an excellent race to pick-up a medal in the freshmen boys race.

CONGRATS TO GIRLS TENNIS: Congratulations to the girl's tennis team for their win over Lafayette 9-0 on Tuesday. Winning for the Cardinals were: Kerstyn Bolton, Cami Pendleton, Marcy Withrow, Lindsey Green, Jessica Ball and Halley Hill. Good job girls!

VOLLEYBALL GAME TONIGHT: Come out and support your Lady Cards when they play at Central tonight! JV starts at 5:30 with varsity to follow!

GIRLS SOCCER: Girls interested in playing in a soccer league on Sunday nights at Riverside Complex MUST have their money to Coach Bosch in room 100 no later than Friday!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Hosea Elementary School needs volunteers on the following days. This opportunity would count toward the 10 hours of community service needed before you graduate. Please see Ms. Sherard or Mrs. McAndrews in the A+ Office for more details.

A+ TUTORING TRAINING: A+ Students: 50 hours of volunteer tutoring/mentoring is one of the requirements of the A+ Schools Program. Before you begin working on your tutoring hours, you must attend one tutor training session. Tutor training will be held in Mrs. O'Dell's classroom on the following dates:
  • Thursday, September 10th 7:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, September 15th 2:45 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 23rd 7:00 a.m.
JOIN FCCLA: You must have taken a FACS class or be in a FACS Class to join. First meeting: Tuesday, September 8th in Room 103. See Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Ezzell or Mrs. Taliaferro if you have any questions.

CONGRATS TO THEATRE ARTS: Congratulations to the following students who received roles in RRT's production of High School Musical:

CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congrats to the Cross Country Team for their outstanding performance in yesterday’s Invitational at Maryville. Taylor Woodruff ran an amazing race to win the individual championship in the Girls Varsity race and in the process tied Benton’s 5k Cross Country record. Blayr Bolton also ran a tremendous race to earn a medal and become the 10th fastest female Cross Country runner in Benton’s history. Amber Flint also ran great in earning a medal. The varsity boys were led by an exceptional 3rd place finish from Kain Ellis. Excellent races with medal performances were also turned in by John Beamon, Tanner Murphy, and Ryno Relford. Chelsea DeRoin paced the J.V. girls with a 3rd place medal finish with medal finishes also earned by Lindsey Williams, Amber Boller, and Laura Conger. Yance Gray paved the way for the J.V. boys with a super 2nd place medal finish. Cecil Leivan also had a outstanding run in the J.V. race to earn a medal.

CONGRATS TO VARSITY VOLLEYBALL: Congratulations to the girls varsity volleyball team on their 3 wins in pool play last night. Come out and support them this Thursday when they play at Central. JV starts at 5:30 with varsity to follow!

BOYS SOCCER: The boys soccer team has their first game tonight up on the football field at 5:00! Wear your red and come out to cheer them on!
