TODAY IS A WHITE DAY

TSA MEETING: There will be a TSA meeting in Room 108 on Tuesday, November 2nd, after school at 2:45 PM. Any student involved in Industrial Technology classes that is interested can attend. It will last approximately 30 minutes.

WRESTLING PRACTICE: Wrestling practice will begin after school on Monday, November 1st, at 3 PM in the Modis Gym. Each student athlete will need to have a physical on file in the office or turned into Coach Hubbard by Monday.

YOUTH BASKETBALL PROGRAM: There are 75 positions open for the Youth Recreational Basketball Program this fall. Clinics will be held for employees on November 13th and 20th at the Muchenberger Center and the season begins on November 29th. Program runs on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Please call 816-271-5500 for more information.

TODAY IS A RED DAY

CONGRATS TO SPEECH AND DEBATE: The Speech and Debate team traveled to Park Hill to compete in the Crabtree Novice Classic last weekend, with 2 duet acting groups advancing to semi-finals; Curtisea Weston-Pompa and Ali Stewart. Keisha Ekpe and Sydney Wilkinson advanced to finals placing 5th out of 23 schools. Brittany Boggess placed 6th out of 38 contestants in Poetry. Please congratulate our finalists as they did well in their first tournament. This weekend the team will compete at Maryville High School.

BASKETBALL MEETING: Thursday after school there will be a girl's basketball meeting that will last for 10-15 minutes. This is a mandatory meeting, if you plan on playing you must be there. A lot of information is going to be given out at this time. Make arrangements to be there. Any questions or concerns, please see Coach Goodwin.

ASVAB TEST: The ASVAB will be given Wednesday, October 27th at 8am in the library. This is a free test that could benefit Juniors and Seniors. If you are thinking about joining the military after high school OR if you would like to see how your academic aptitude correlates to your career interests, you should sign up to take the ASVAB as soon as possible. Taking this test in NO WAY commits you to joining the military. Sign up is in the Counseling Center.

TODAY IS A WHITE DAY

TEEN READ WEEK: Teen Read Week runs from October 18-22 and the library has plenty of events to celebrate books and reading! This year's theme is Books With a Beat, celebrating music and books!
  • Monday: Join us in the library for a showing of School of Rock during lunch! (See Mrs. Corey or Mrs. Halter for ticket). We will also have the inaugural meeting of our Cardinals Read Book Club right after school! Cardinals Read will begin meeting on the 1st Monday of each month!
  • Tuesday: Join us in the library for a Glee marathon during lunch! (See Mrs. Corey or Mrs. Halter for ticket.)
  • Wednesday: Dress like your favorite book character, including manga/anime characters! A $10 Borders gift card will be given to the wearer of the best costume!
  • Thursday: Join us in the library for the inaugural Brown Bag Anime session during your lunch period! This week's selection will be the film NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind. (See Mrs. Corey or Mrs. Halter for ticket.) Brown Bag Anime will be a regular event on the 1st and 3rd Fridays each month! Join OASIS club in the library at 5:30 PM for Guitar Hero and gaming!
CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for there efforts in the Conference Championships yesterday at Savannah. The Varsity Boys made the rest of the Conference remember the day they had to run against the Benton Cardinals by burying the other runners and becoming the Conference Champions for the first time since 2006. The Cardinals were led by Conference Champion Kain Ellis. Will Allen and Hunter Gregg followed up with awesome 2nd and 3rd place finishes. All three earned 1st Team All-Conference Honors. John Beamon and Aaron Shannon ran amazing races to finish in the top ten and earn 2nd Team All-Conference Honors. Cecil Leivan and Keegan Cunningham provided strong support. The Varsity Girls also brought honors to Benton by finishing in a strong 2nd place at the Conference Championships. The girls were led by by an exceptional run from Amber Flint in earning 1st Team All-Conference Honors. Lucy Mollett also ran an outstanding race to earn 2nd Team All-Conference Honors. Heavin Warner Skyler Glawson, and Lauren Johnson also ran great races in helping the Cardinals to a second place finish. Strong support was provided by Felicia Holliday and Amber Boller.

  • Wednesday: Dress like your favorite book character, including manga/anime characters! A $10 Borders gift card will be given to the wearer of the best costume!

CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for there efforts in the Conference Championships yesterday at Savannah. The Varsity Boys made the rest of the Conference remember the day they had to run against the Benton Cardinals by burying the other runners and becoming the Conference Champions for the first time since 2006. The Cardinals were led by Conference Champion Kain Ellis. Will Allen and Hunter Gregg followed up with awesome 2nd and 3rd place finishes. All three earned 1st Team All-Conference Honors. John Beamon and Aaron Shannon ran amazing races to finish in the top ten and earn 2nd Team All-Conference Honors. Cecil Leivan and Keegan Cunningham provided strong support. The Varsity Girls also brought honors to Benton by finishing in a strong 2nd place at the Conference Championships. The girls were led by by an exceptional run from Amber Flint in earning 1st Team All-Conference Honors. Lucy Mollett also ran an outstanding race to earn 2nd Team All-Conference Honors. Heavin Warner Skyler Glawson, and Lauren Johnson also ran great races in helping the Cardinals to a second place finish. Strong support was provided by Felicia Holliday and Amber Boller.

ASVAB TEST: The ASVAB will be given Wednesday, October 27th at 8am in the library. This is a free test that could benefit Juniors and Seniors. If you are thinking about joining the military after high school OR if you would like to see how your academic aptitude correlates to your career interests, you should sign up to take the ASVAB as soon as possible. Taking this test in NO WAY commits you to joining the military. Sign up is in the Counseling Center.

You must take it your junior year to qualify. The test will be given on Saturday, October 16th here at Benton. Cost of the test is $13 and can be paid for on the day of testing.

CHILI TAILGATE: Come enjoy some chili and help raise funds for Benton Wrestling before the home football game on October 15th! Cost is $5 per person, all you can eat, bring the whole family! Tailgate starts at 6 PM.

There are sponsor sheets in the mailroom on the counter, with a $51.00 or more donation, your name goes on the back of the shirt and you get a shirt with it. All other donor names of $10 or more will be listed in the program.

CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for an outstanding performance yesterday in the Excelsior Springs Invitational. The Boys Varsity ran away with the Team Championship. This is the 1st time that they have won the Excelsior Springs Invitational in 15 years. The Team was led by three top ten performances from Kain Ellis, Will Allen, and John Beamon. Hunter Gregg, Aaron Shannon, and Keegan Cunningham provided exceptionally strong support. Heavin Warner, Lauren Johnson, and Felicia Holliday earned medals in leading the J.V. Girls through a strong race.

TODAY IS A WHITE DAY

PINK RIBBON GAME: On Friday Oct 15th, the Cheerleaders will be hosting our Pink Ribbon Game against Platte County. We are asking everyone to help us in our efforts to support Breast Cancer Awareness. We are selling shirts for $12.00 and they are white short sleeve with our pink ribbon slogan (picture on attendance office door) We are also looking for sponsors to help out. There are sponsor sheets in the mailroom on the counter, with a $51.00 or more donation, your name goes on the back of the shirt and you get a shirt with it. All other donor names of $10 or more will be listed in the program.

CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their efforts on Saturday in the Savannah Invitational. The Boys Varsity was edged out for the team championship by Kearney and finished in second place. The boys were led by strong performances from Kain Ellis and John Beamon with strong support and medal performance runs from Will Allen, Hunter Gregg, and Aaron Shannon. Lucy Mollett raced to a medal place finish in the varsity girls division. Lauren Johnson and Felicia Holliday both had exceptional runs in leading the J.V. Girls. Zack Frederick earned a medal in the Fr. Boys Race.

FBLA MEETING: There will be an FBLA meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7:10 AM. in Room 111. Members need to bring their fundraiser or dues money. We will begin our LifeSmarts competition and choose events to participate in for district contest in February. Hope to see you there!

CHILI TAILGATE: Come enjoy some chili and help raise funds for Benton Wrestling before the home football game on October 15th! Cost is $5 per person, all you can eat, bring the whole family! Tailgate starts at 6 PM.

JOSTEN'S GRADUATION ORDERS: Josten's will be at Benton High School on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 2:10 PM. for a senior class meeting. At this time we will go over Jostens Announcement and Cap and Gown Program and students will receive information/order packets that they will need to take home and discuss with their parents. On Monday, October 25, 2010 during lunch periods we will be in the cafeteria to take graduation product orders with the senior class.

HOMECOMING T-SHIRTS: Homecoming T-shirts are sold in Mr. Knight's room. The price is cut in half. Have some memorabilia from the game. The cost for a t-shirt is $5 and we only offer 2XL, M and S. The rest have been sold!

NOYES CARNIVAL: Noyes Elementary needs help for their carnival. We need people to volunteer to help out. Seniors you can use this as volunteer hours for graduation. Also student council, this sign up is mandatory for you. The Carnival is Oct. 14th from 5-8. Please sign up in Mr. Knight's room.

TSA MEETING: There will be a TSA meeting in room 108 on Tuesday, October 5th after school at 2:45pm. Any student involved in Industrial Technology classes that is interested can attend. It will last approximately 30 minutes.

NWMSU VISIT DAY: Northwest Missouri State University is hosting Computing Visit Day on Saturday, October 9th, 2010. It represents an opportunity for students to learn about Computing at Northwest, and one lucky attendee will win a $1,150 scholarship. For more information or to sign up, please see Ms. Hochenauer in the counseling center.

MWSU DEADLINE: Priority deadline for Admissions is November 15, 2010. In order to meet the priority deadline you must have turned into MWSU a completed application, ACT score, & high school transcript.

CONGRATS TO GIRL'S TENNIS: Congratulations to the girls tennis team for their win over Maryville 5-4 on Thursday. Team Districts are on Monday after school at Noyes and Individual Districts are on Thursday. Their ending season record is 7-6. Way to go girls!
