TODAY IS A WHITE DAY

TEEN READ WEEK: Teen Read Week runs from October 18-22 and the library has plenty of events to celebrate books and reading! This year's theme is Books With a Beat, celebrating music and books!
  • Monday: Join us in the library for a showing of School of Rock during lunch! (See Mrs. Corey or Mrs. Halter for ticket). We will also have the inaugural meeting of our Cardinals Read Book Club right after school! Cardinals Read will begin meeting on the 1st Monday of each month!
  • Tuesday: Join us in the library for a Glee marathon during lunch! (See Mrs. Corey or Mrs. Halter for ticket.)
  • Wednesday: Dress like your favorite book character, including manga/anime characters! A $10 Borders gift card will be given to the wearer of the best costume!
  • Thursday: Join us in the library for the inaugural Brown Bag Anime session during your lunch period! This week's selection will be the film NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind. (See Mrs. Corey or Mrs. Halter for ticket.) Brown Bag Anime will be a regular event on the 1st and 3rd Fridays each month! Join OASIS club in the library at 5:30 PM for Guitar Hero and gaming!
CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for there efforts in the Conference Championships yesterday at Savannah. The Varsity Boys made the rest of the Conference remember the day they had to run against the Benton Cardinals by burying the other runners and becoming the Conference Champions for the first time since 2006. The Cardinals were led by Conference Champion Kain Ellis. Will Allen and Hunter Gregg followed up with awesome 2nd and 3rd place finishes. All three earned 1st Team All-Conference Honors. John Beamon and Aaron Shannon ran amazing races to finish in the top ten and earn 2nd Team All-Conference Honors. Cecil Leivan and Keegan Cunningham provided strong support. The Varsity Girls also brought honors to Benton by finishing in a strong 2nd place at the Conference Championships. The girls were led by by an exceptional run from Amber Flint in earning 1st Team All-Conference Honors. Lucy Mollett also ran an outstanding race to earn 2nd Team All-Conference Honors. Heavin Warner Skyler Glawson, and Lauren Johnson also ran great races in helping the Cardinals to a second place finish. Strong support was provided by Felicia Holliday and Amber Boller.

ASVAB TEST: The ASVAB will be given Wednesday, October 27th at 8am in the library. This is a free test that could benefit Juniors and Seniors. If you are thinking about joining the military after high school OR if you would like to see how your academic aptitude correlates to your career interests, you should sign up to take the ASVAB as soon as possible. Taking this test in NO WAY commits you to joining the military. Sign up is in the Counseling Center.

BOOK REVIEWS = BORDERS GIFT CARDS: Students! The library is looking for student book reviews for our blog and we need YOU! Get a book review form in the library, fill it out according to the criteria, and you'll be entered for a chance at a $10 Borders gift card if your review is selected! We'll feature one review a month on our blog so review away!

HALLOWEEN PARTY: Drama Club will host a Halloween party on Tuesday, October 26th from 7:00-9:00 in the auditorium. We will have a costume contest. Please bring treats to share.

PLAYWRIGHT'S WORKSHOP: Calling all writers! The theatre department will be hosting a playwrights workshop on Monday nights from 5:30-6:30 in room 102. Our first meeting will be Monday, October 18th. Bring your writing or just your ideas! Everyone is welcome!

SENIORS!: Josten's plans to be here on Monday, October 25th, during lunch to take graduation product and cap and gown orders. (Height and Weight info is required.) Please be sure to bring your $60.00 deposit at this time.

MWSU DEADLINE: Priority deadline for Admissions is November 15, 2010. In order to meet the priority deadline you must have turned into MWSU a completed application, ACT score, & high school transcript.

WENDY'S HEISMAN SCHOLARSHIP: Seniors, if you participate in at least one sport and are a leader in your school & community then visit www.wendysheisman.com to appply for this scholarship opportunity.

CHANCELLOR'S SCHOLARSHIP AT MISSOURI S&T: If you are a senior, Have been accepted at Missouri S&T, GPA 3.75 or higher, ACT score 30 or higher, you may qualify! Deadline to apply is October 25, 2010. See your counselor or Ms. Hochenauer for details.

CONSIDERING MIZZOU?: December 1, 2010 is the scholarship priority deadline for Mizzou. Scholarship application for entering Mizzou freshman students can be found online at financialaid.missouri.edu.

KSTATE UNIV ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP: Seniors interested in engineering, GPA 3.60 of higher, ACT score 29 or higher qualify. Must apply for scholarship by November 1, 2010 at www.k-state.edu/admit/apply. See your counselor or Ms. Hochenauer for details.

SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP: Seniors planning to major in conservation or a natural resources-related field. Find details & application at www.swcs.missouri.edu. Completed applications due by 11/29/2010.

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS:Seniors if you are going to Mizzou & are majoring in business check out the available scholarships at www.business.missouri.edu/scholarships. Completed applications must be submitted by 2/1/2011.

AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIPS: You must be a decedent of a veteran with at least 90 days of active service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, who received honorable discharge for such service. To obtain more details and/or copies of the scholarships you can visit www.missourilegion.org or see your counselor or Ms. Hochenauer. Completed applications should be mailed no later than 4/20/2011.
