URGENT: Those seniors seriously planning on applying for Cotillion need to sign the list in the Counseling Center by Friday of this week.

CONGRATS TO BOYS SOCCER: Great Job to the Boys Soccer Team as they volunteered at Second Harvest last week in helping to prepare over 1200 bags for BackPack Buddies. Also, the Boys Soccer Team will be hosting their Second Annual "Senior Night Kick Out Hunger" Canned Food Drive October 27th at 5 p.m. Plan now to bring two canned food items and get in for FREE. The Team's Goal this year is to gather more than 1000 canned food items for the hungry in their community. Please join our team in helping KICK OUT HUNGER.. The boys will be accepting canned food donations starting October 13th- October 27th.

SPORTS PHYSICALS: If you are planning on participating in winter sports and need a physical, the Health Express will be here Friday, October 9th doing sports physicals. To sign up, please see the nurse. She will give you the appropriate forms to be filled out and accept your money. The cost is $15 cash or check (made payable to Health Express).

A+ TUTOR TRAINING SCHEDULE: Upcoming tutor trainings be held on the following dates in Mrs. O'Dell's classroom:
  • Monday, October 12 - 2:45 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 20 - 7:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, October 28 - 2:45 p.m.

  • DRAMA CLUB T-SHIRTS: Drama Club t-shirt orders are due this Friday! Please turn your $13 in to Mrs. Schultz in room 102.

    OVERNIGHT LAPTOP CHECKOUT: The library is checking out laptops to students for an overnight period. To check out a laptop, you must do the following:
    1. Attend a 10-15 minute laptop training in the library before or after school.
    2. Sign a contract along with your parent or guardian agreeing to checkout terms. Sign up sheets are in the library.
    You MUST attend training AND return the contract BEFORE checkout can begin.

    VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Hosea Elementary is looking for volunteers for their carnival on Friday, October 16th. The time is from 4:00-9:00 p.m., but you can sign up in shifts. This will count towards your volunteer hours for graduation. Please see Mrs. Hitch in the counseling center to sign up.

    ATTENTION ALL SOPHOMORES: Did you know that your high school provides free technical training at Hillyard Technical Center? You and your parents are invited to Hillyard Technical Center for the annual Parent-Sophomore Open House. The event is on Thursday evening, October 15th, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Please come and explore the shops and labs at Hillyard, and get ready for your future now!

    MIC-O-SAY SCHOLARSHIP: The Newman Mic-o-say Scholarship is due October 10th. You are eligible to apply if you are a boyscout member of the Tribe of Mic-o-say. See Mrs. Turner or Mrs. Hitch ASAP!

    HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP: Time is running out to apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarship. The due date is Oct 30th. A recommendation letter from an adult is required. Do not wait until the last minute to ask for your recommendation. Students from Benton have won this scholarship in the past. You must have overcome some type of adversity and display financial need in order to apply. See Mrs. Turner or Mrs. Hitch ASAP.

    COMMUNITY OF SPIRIT SCHOLARSHIP: Juniors and Seniors are eligible to apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Scholarship in recognition of OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT. See Prep HQ, Mrs. Hitch or Mrs. Turner in the counseling center to apply. Deadline is October 31st.

    COCA COLA SCHOLARSHIP: The deadline for the Coca Cola Scholarship is October 30th. You should look on PrepHQ for the website and then apply online. This is a national scholarship in which 50 students receive $20,000 and 200 students receive $10,000 for college.

    ASVAB Test: Will be held on October 28th at 8:00 a.m. Juniors and seniors interested in taking the ASVAB test need to sign up in the counseling center by October 23rd. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Engel.

    TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS: Any student needing to request a transcript needs to do so through Prep HQ. If you have any questions please contact your counselor or Mrs. Hitch.
