Benton High School will begin it's first ever 'Organized Indoor Futsal League', November 15th. Anyone interested, please stop by the Library and see Coach Milbourn for more information. No soccer experience neccessary, and any boy/girl interested in participating in BHS's socer programs next year, this is a fun and easy way to learn how to play!!


Members of the FRIENDS OF RACHEL CLUB are inviting other interested students to help them support the Fall Book Sale of the Public Library. The sale runs from November 3 through 8 at Stoney Creek Inn (north of Frederick at 1201 Woodbine Road). Volunteers are needed to help set up any time during the day on Monday. The sale starts at 5 p.m. Monday and runs until 8 p.m. People can volunteer any evening, Monday through Friday, from 5 to 8. Jobs will include unpacking books, carrying books for customers, and running the cash register. On Friday night, a crew is needed from 8 to 10 p.m. to help break down the sale and pack up the unsold books. Hours volunteered will count toward the required Community Service for all students. If you are interested, sign up in the Counseling Center in the Friends of Rachel notebook (on the counter under the clock).

Due to all the Aids Societies and Cancer Care groups,the Burn Unit Children are being left. Anyone who wants to Join, Benton's first faternity, please feel free to

We will also be raising money for Adopt-A-Family all week. Officers will collect money to see a teacher have a pie in the face during the pep assembly on Thursday, Oct. 30. Bring money during lunch to go to your favorite teacher!!!!

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Apptitude Battery) Test will be given on Thursday, October 30, in the JROTC room, starting at 8 A.M. It is a multi-aptitude test that helps you identify your different abilities and explore career opportunities. It is a free test and is open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This test can help you decide if you want to go on to college or vocational school after high school, or directly enter the world of work. It also can help you to decide whether you want to join one of the military services and take advantage of technical and specialized training and educational benefits available to you. All you need to do is sign up in the counseling center or the JROTC room. The deadline to sign up is the end of the day, October 29th.

Drop off hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. Please no coats that need repair. Coats need to be CLEAN AND READY TO WEAR.
Distribution will be Saturday November 1, 2008 from the above address.

Congratulations to Karli Sample for being selected to the All-Northwest Class 3 Region 2nd team in volleyball and Chelsie Strong for making All-Region Class 3 Honorable Mention. Nice job ladies.

The State Softball Tournament was a success in St. Joseph over the weekend. MSHSAA Officials were very happy will the how well everything was run. A huge thank you goes to all those volunteers from all the schools. The parks department personnel were excellent. Have a great week ahead.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Boys Soccer team on their Smashing 4-3 Win over Central last Thursday night. It is the first time the Benton boys have ever beat Central and we are the first Saint Joseph team to beat them as well. Alejandro Castillo scored 3 goals and Mike Westfall scored 1, Blake Davis finshed the night with having an unforgettable performance of 12 saves.. They also raised 200 canned food items for Second Harvest. Thank you to all that participated, and a special thanks to the cheer squad. and poms for coming out and supporting..

The Missouri Taxidermy Institute in Linn Creek, MO at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks is looking for students interested in taxidermy. They offer 4 and 8 week classes several times a year. Please see Mrs. Arambula if you are interested.

Whiskey Creek is looking form greeters to work at least one night a week and 2 weekend nights. It is $4.75 an hour, plus 2% of tips made. See Mrs. Arambula if you need more information.

The Career Education Class is taking a college visit to the University of Kansas on Wednesday, Oct. 29th. Any seniors that are interested in going please see Mrs. Arambula in the Counseling Center or Ms. Gaiser. We will be leaving school at 7:45 and returning by 2:30. The cost is $7.50 per student plus additional money for lunch. All permission slips and money need to be turned in by Friday, Oct. 24th. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Apptitude Battery) Test will be given on Thursday, October 30, in the JROTC room, starting at 8 A.M. It is a multi-aptitude test that helps you identify your different abilities and explore career opportunities. It is a free test and is open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This test can help you decide if you want to go on to college or vocational school after high school, or directly enter the world of work. It also can help you to decide whether you want to join one of the military services and take advantage of technical and specialized training and educational benefits available to you. All you need to do is sign up in the counseling center or the JROTC room. The deadline to sign up is the end of the day, October 29th.

IT's Book Fair Time again, that's right the Book Fair will begin October 23rd,and run through October 30th. Come check it out in the Library, the library will be open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday - Friday:) See you there!

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their efforts in the M.E.C. Championships held yesterday at Krug Park. The varsity boys finished in 4th place led by the 2nd Team All-Conference finishes from Jordan Bolton and John Beamon. Ryno Relford, Josh White, and Tanner Murphy rounded out the scoring for Benton. The varsity girls finished in second place paced by the 1st Team All-Conference performance from Taylor Woodruff and the 2nd Team All-Conference effort from Blayr Bolton.
Erin McAndrews, Heavin Warner, and Lauren Johnson provided strong support for the girls 2nd place finish. The J.V. boys were led by strong runs from Brian McIntosh, C.J. Snapp, and Brandon Parker.

Congratulations to the Soccer Team for thier 5-0 win over Cameron. Alejandro Castillo had 4 Goals with 3 Assists from Anthony Ortega, and Mike Westfall made a beautiful Goal off of a corner kick, Blake Davis had a whopping 6 saves to conclude the evening's match.. Great Job Boys.
They will go on to host "BENTON SENIORS KICKIN' OUT HUNGER', OCTOBER 23RD, 2008 @ 5 P.M.. as they play Central. It is Benton's last home game and we will honor the seniors and also feed the hungry. Bring a canned food item, and get into the game for FREE> The teams' goal is to raise 1,000 canned food items to give to Second Harvest. Our mascot Bentley will be giving away PRIZES, GIFT CERTIFICATES AND FREE MERCHANDISE!! So wear your red and black and let's show our Southside Pride as we feed the Hungry.....

The Benton Cheerleaders are hosting the Pink Ribbon Game on Friday Oct. 17th. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, so come out and support them on their efforts. Shirts are on sale now, buy them from a cheerleader during lunch in the lunch room. Profits from the shirts will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation to women in our community who need financial assistance for mamograms.

Prom committee members will meet Friday October 17th right after school in room 207 for a short meeting. Those who have their forms need to bring them back signed, those needing a form to be signed, come by 209 and get it.

The Salvation Army has started their ANNUAL COAT DRIVE "Operation-Second Coat"They will accept coats in good condition. They may be dropped off at The Salvation Army 602 Messanie St.
Drop off hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. Please no coats that need repair. Coats need to be CLEAN AND READY TO WEAR.

Distribution will be Saturday November 1, 2008 from the above address.

In order to be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship you will have to take the PSAT and score high enough to qualify.

Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their efforts on Saturday in the Kearney Invitational. The Boys were led by John Beamon with strong support from Ryno Relford and Jordan Bolton. Taylor woodruff and Blayr Bolton paced the Girls varsity. Brian McIntosh led the way for the Boys J.V. Eden Woodbury ran a strong race in leading the Girls J.V. Logan Amador led the Fr. Boys while Amber Boller was top finisher for the Fr. Girls.

Benton Soccer is playing Lafayette tonight at Sparks Stadium, 5 p.m.

The Career Education Class is taking a college visit to the University of Kansas on Wednesday, Oct. 29th. Any seniors that are interested in going please see Mrs. Arambula in the Counseling Center or Ms. Gaiser. We will be leaving school at 7:45 and returning by 2:30. Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their performances in the Excelsior Springs Invitational yesterday. John Beamon and Jordan Bolton led the boys varsity with strong medals finish runs. Taylor Woodruff ran an outstanding race to finish in the top five of the girls varsity. Brian McIntosh led Benton finishers in the boys J.V. race. Blayr Bolton raced to a top ten finish with strong support from Erin McAndrews in the girls J.V. race. Kegan Cunningham, C.J. Snapp, and Casey Easter all ran exceptional races to earn medals in the Freshmen boys race.

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Congratualations to the Boys Soccer team for Defeating the Maryville Spoofhounds 4-1 Goal Scores include: Anthony Ortega with one goal, Alejandro Castillo with 2 goals and Trevor Brown with the final goal of the game. Blake Davis ended the night with 12 saves. Great job boys!! The boys will take on Harrisonville tonight at 5 in Excelsior Springs.

A big Benton Grats goes out to the girl's tennis team for placing fourth in the Benton Tennis Tournament on Friday. Members are: Karyn Heim, Whitney Hollars, Kerstyn Bolton, Marcy Withrow, Lindsey Green, Morgan Wacker and Jessica Ball.

Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their efforts in the Savannah Invitational on Saturday. John Beamon, Ryno Relford, and Jordan Bolton all ran excellent races to earn medals for their performances. Taylor Woodruff, Blayr Bolton, and Erin McAndrews all ran strong races in earning medals. Spenser Cambron raced to a medal in leading the J.V. Boys. Lauren Johnson and Amber Boller both ran well in earning medals in the girls J.V. race. C.J. Snapp, Kegan Cunningham, Casey Easter, Randy Armstrong, and Logan Amador all earned medals in the Freshmen boys race.

Boys soccer team took 3rd place in the Smith-Cotton Tournament over the weekend. Winning 1 out of the 3 games played. The win was a result of their hard work and determination. They play Maryville today at 4..

Foreign Language Club will meet Wednesday morning at 7:15 and on Thursday immediately after school in room 202. Students only need to attend one of the meetings.
