STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Congratulations to Karli Sample for being selected to the All-Northwest Class 3 Region 2nd team in volleyball and Chelsie Strong for making All-Region Class 3 Honorable Mention. Nice job ladies.

The State Softball Tournament was a success in St. Joseph over the weekend. MSHSAA Officials were very happy will the how well everything was run. A huge thank you goes to all those volunteers from all the schools. The parks department personnel were excellent. Have a great week ahead.

Members of the FRIENDS OF RACHEL CLUB are inviting other interested students to help them support the Fall Book Sale of the Public Library. The sale runs from November 3 through 8 at Stoney Creek Inn (north of Frederick at 1201 Woodbine Road). Volunteers are needed to help set up any time during the day on Monday. The sale starts at 5 p.m. Monday and runs until 8 p.m. People can volunteer any evening, Monday through Friday, from 5 to 8. Jobs will include unpacking books, carrying books for customers, and running the cash register. On Friday night, a crew is needed from 8 to 10 p.m. to help break down the sale and pack up the unsold books. Hours volunteered will count toward the required Community Service for all students. If you are interested, sign up in the Counseling Center in the Friends of Rachel notebook (on the counter under the clock).

A+ SCHOOLS PROGRAM: A+ tutor training will be held on Thursday morning, October 30th at 7:00 a.m. in room A3. Please remember that tutors must attend one training. If you have any questions, stop by the A+ Office in the library.

We will also be raising money for Adopt-A-Family all week. Officers will collect money to see a teacher have a pie in the face during the pep assembly on Thursday, Oct. 30. Bring money during lunch to go to your favorite teacher!!!!

Delta Beta Sigma ( Benton's first faternity)
The D.B.S.'s goal is to help Burnned Unit Children feel like "Regular People",again. They try and accomplish this goal by visiting Childrens Mercy Hospital for a whole afternoon, one weekend a month to talk and play with the kids. Due to all the Aids Societies and Cancer Care groups,the Burn Unit Children are being left. Anyone who wants to Join, Benton's first faternity, please feel free to
contact the sponsor Mr.Kelly (science teacher)before November 15th

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Apptitude Battery) Test will be given on Thursday, October 30, in the JROTC room, starting at 8 A.M. It is a multi-aptitude test that helps you identify your different abilities and explore career opportunities. It is a free test and is open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This test can help you decide if you want to go on to college or vocational school after high school, or directly enter the world of work. It also can help you to decide whether you want to join one of the military services and take advantage of technical and specialized training and educational benefits available to you. All you need to do is sign up in the counseling center or the JROTC room. The deadline to sign up is the end of the day, October 29th.

IT's Book Fair Time again, that's right the Book Fair will began October 23rd,and run through October 30th. Come check it out in the Library, the library will be open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday - Friday:) See you there!

The Salvation Army has started their ANNUAL COAT DRIVE "Operation-Second Coat"They will accept coats in good condition. They may be dropped off at The Salvation Army 602 Messanie St.
Drop off hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. Please no coats that need repair. Coats need to be CLEAN AND READY TO WEAR.
Distribution will be Saturday November 1, 2008 from the above address.

Interested in being a part of the State Girls Basketball Championship Program at Benton? Well, Try-outs will begin Novemeber 10th and anyone that wants basketball shoes, see Coach Goodwin, ASAP.

Juniors, as participants of the My Success Event last year, you are eligible for a My Success Event Scholarship. There are at least 16- $500 scholarships available. Some colleges have matching scholarships for students receiving the MSE scholarship. This could mean $1000 for some students. The scholarship application is available at: http://www.mysuccessevent.com/ and is due November 7th. See Mrs. Nelson or Mrs. Arambula if you have questions.
