GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARSHIP: If you are a minority student with significant financial need and a GPA of at least 3.3, you might be eligible for the GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARSHIP. Please see Mrs. Turner or Mrs. Hitch for an application packet. The deadline is January 7th.

QUIZ BOWL CANCELLATION: The quiz bowl tournament scheduled for this weekend at Maryville has been postponed and the makeup date has not yet been determined.

OVERNIGHT LAPTOP CHECKOUT: If you have checked out a library laptop overnight, you MUST return the laptop PRIOR to the start of first hour! You cannot keep a laptop during school hours at ANY time. ASVAB TEST RESULTS: If you took the ASVAB test, please report to the counseling center Tuesday, December 8th at the beginning of CAMP to receive your results.

FBLA MEETING: FBLA meeting will be held next Thursday, December 10th at 7:10 AM in Room 111. Remember to bring snack items for Backpack Buddies. We will taking our final tests for LifeSmarts and choosing the competitions for the District FBLA contest in March. Please be on time!

ATTENTION ALL SOCCER PLAYERS: Starting this Saturday at 1:30 in the BHS gym, we will be having open gym and splitting into teams to scrimmage for soccer! Boys and girls are both welcome to come and play! If you have any questions see Coach Bosch in Room 100!

PLAY AND PIE NIGHT: Drama Club will be having Play and Pie Night! We will meet at Lafayette at 6:30 on Friday, December 11th to see the musical, "Bye, Bye Birdie". After the show we will go to Perkins. Everyone must purchase their own tickets ($8 at the door or $6 in advance) and provide their own transportation.

CHRISTMAS SPOOKTACULAR: Drama Club will be hosting the Christmas Spooktacular on Thursday, December 17th from 4:30-8:30 PM in the auditorium. Come in a Halloween costume for the contest and bring a holiday gag gift for the gift exchange. We will watch a Christmas movie and go on a ghost hunt. Bring food and drinks to share.

SALVATION ARMY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: There are a number of volunteer opportunities available at the Salvation Army this holiday season, including bell ringing, assembling gift bags, setting up for group dinners, and distributing toys. ROTC CONGRATS: Congratulations to ROTC for the great performance and participation in the Veterans Day activities. Citizens from the community sent a letter commending your service each year with the program. Thank you to those who took part and represented Benton High School.

UPWARD BOUND CANCELED: After School tutoring for today for Upward Bound students has been canceled. It will resume next Monday, November 30th, as normal.

QUIZ BOWL THANKS AND CONGRATS: The Quiz Bowl team would like to thank the students and staff that helped run our tournament at Benton this weekend. The tournament was an absolute success. We'd also like to recognize freshman Zach Bailey who placed 10th out of ninety competitors at a recent quiz bowl tournament at Lexington High School.

NHS THANKSGIVING: All NHS students that signed up for Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Family, must see either Ms. Sherard or Ms. Bosworth by Tuesday morning. We will meet Wednesday after school to pick up the meals and other items to deliver Wednesday after school to the families.

CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the four members of the Cross Country Team for their efforts in the State Cross Country Championships Saturday in Jefferson City. John Beamon ran the race of his career and missed earning All-State Honors by only 11 places. Blayr Bolton was equally successful and missed All-State Honors by 14 places and finished with the 8th highest place at State in Benton Girls Cross Country history. Taylor Woodruff positioned herself well early in the race and finished with a strong performance. Kain Ellis also positioned himself well early in the race and finished as the 7th fastest freshman in state.

CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their efforts in the District Championships on Saturday at Kearney. The boys team finished a very solid 4th place led by the outstanding All-District performances from John Beamon and Kain Ellis. Ryno Relford also ran an exceptional race. Keegan Cunningham, Tanner Murphy, and Brandon Parker provided strong support. The girls team also ran well led by the superior runs from Taylor Woodruff and Blayr Bolton to earn All-District Honors. Amber Flint also ran a tremendous race. Heavin Warner, Lauren Johnson, and Eden Woodbury completed the team scoring. John Beamon, Kain Ellis, Taylor Woodruff, and Blayr Bolton will all qualified and will participate in the State Cross Country Championships this Saturday in Jefferson City.

    COLLEGE VISITS: Students please be advised if you want to go on a college visit you must request the permission form from Mrs. Hitch at least one week in advance of your scheduled visit date. If you are failing any class or have less than 90% attendance, you will not be permitted to go. Teachers must be given advanced notice of at least 2 class periods, and must sign off for you to miss their class. This will count as one of the two days you can be gone per semester.

    ASVAB TEST: Will be held on October 28th at 8:00 a.m. Juniors and seniors interested in taking the ASVAB test need to sign up in the counseling center by TODAY. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Engel.

    CONGRATS TO CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their efforts in yesterday’s Conference Championships in Maryville. Both the Boys and the Girls finished in 2nd place in the M.E.C. Championships. The varsity boys were led by the outstanding 3rd and 4th place 1st Team All-Conference finishes from Kain Ellis and John Beamon. Ryno Relford ran an exceptional race to capture 2nd Team All-Conference honors. Tanner Murphy and Keegan Cunningham both ran solid races to help the Cardinals to their 2nd place finish. The varsity girls were led by the excellent races turned-in by Taylor Woodruff and Blayr Bolton to earn 1st Team All-Conference recognition. Amber Flint raced her way to a 2nd Team All-Conference finish. Heavin Warner and Eden Woodbury both ran strong races to help push the Lady Cardinals to their 2nd place finish.
